‘Live To Be This’ Boneshakers
Words: A. Murray.
Legendary soul-blues rockers The Boneshakers are turning up the heat with their upcoming 11th studio album, Live To Be This, set for release on July 18, 2025, via acclaimed blues label Gulf Coast Records. Fans can now pre-order the highly anticipated release at www.officialboneshakers.com across digital, CD, and vinyl formats.
Described as their most electrifying album to date, Live To Be This sees the band fuse their trademark blend of blues, soul, and rock with raw energy and unfiltered emotion. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Jenny Langer and guitar maestro Randy Jacobs (Was (Not Was)), this new release is poised to redefine the group’s legacy.
“This album is a love letter to the music that shaped us—gritty, soulful, and alive,” says Langer. “In a world of digital perfection, Live To Be This is all about real musicians playing with feeling.” Jacobs adds, “Just beautiful, positive energy pouring from all involved. A great new home for the Boneshakers!”
The album follows the success of One Foot In The Groove, which hit #1 on the UK Blues radio charts and made waves across US Soul Blues radio. With Live To Be This, The Boneshakers tap into the heart of their original sound, while exploring new sonic territory.
Produced by John Wooler—the visionary behind their 1990s breakout Book of Spells on Virgin Records—the album mixes originals from Langer and Jacobs with fresh takes on tracks by Screaming Jay Hawkins, Betty Davis, Iggy Pop, Jimmy Hall, and Ike & Tina Turner.
The album’s guest list is a who’s who of blues greatness, including:
Bobby Rush (three-time Grammy winner)
Charlie Musselwhite (blues harp legend)
Don Was (Grammy-winning producer/bassist)
Coco Montoya
Jimmy Carpenter (Grammy-winning saxophonist)
John “Papa” Gros
Ron Holloway
Fans won’t have to wait long for a taste. The first single, “I’ll Kick A Brick (For My Man)”, drops April 25, 2025, followed by “Salty” (featuring Bobby Rush) on June 6, 2025.
With Live To Be This, The Boneshakers channel the soul of Detroit, the grit of Memphis, and the warmth of Muscle Shoals into a celebration of their enduring legacy—and fearless future.
Don’t miss it. Live To Be This is more than an album—it’s a revival.
