The work by Melanie MacLaren and Lorkin O’Reilly, “Tadpole Emporium,” has left me in utter wonder. I have always had a soft spot for indie-folk music, and Mel and Lorkin have only served to fuel my enthusiasm for this genre.

It seemed to me that “Tadpole Emporium” was delivered in an entirely truthful manner. It is a well-worked effort, one that you can readily see as having had a lot of effort put into it, and I can practically feel the emotion that is being sent via each track. The evocative song “Clearance Aisle” serves as the Ep’s introduction, as Lorkin’s gritty singing and diatonic wordplay serve to stab at the listener’s heartstrings. Each subsequent track adds to the passionate air that seeps out of the production, and Mel and Lorkin come together as one, resulting in one of the most captivating collaborations around!
