‘Cower’ By Oscar Merry

Words: A. Murray.

Oscar Merry is back with his new single ‘Cower’. It is a track taken from his latest EP ‘Unfurl’, and it brings a rock vibe which is challenging to resist.

The musician is straight out of Bristol, and he is catapulting himself forward with a sound which many, including myself, are relishing. He is potent with his songwriting, and he combines hard-hitting riffs with a tight rhythm which gets us tapping along instantly.

Kicking off the piece is a robust guitar intro, and it leaves us trickling from the mouth with its stadium rock quality. There are a few guitar layers present, and it sounds enormous with each guitar track adding even more weight to the already full sound. Clevely, Oscar fuses a variety of guitar effects, and it makes for a substantial foundation ready for a killer vocal performance.

Vocally, Oscar shines brightly in a unique light. He does not sound similar to anything else I am currently hearing on the rock chart, and he brings a new direction to this popular genre. Also, he combines a variety of genres into one, proving that he has just about something for everybody. Nevertheless, I would enjoy a little more backing harmony in places. But, knowing that Oscar is the creator of every instrument and sound audible on this record, it is difficult to fault him because he has come up with a gem here with ‘Cower’.

As the track progresses, we hear more sounds popping to the forefront of the mix. Also, the record keeps reinventing itself as it plays out, which keeps it from becoming repetitive, and it keeps us locked in from start to finish.
